The severe challenge I face everyday as a graphic designer in NYC is to not be overwhelmed by all of the phenomenally amazing design that surrounds me but, instead, to be inspired by it. This is where I begin 2010.
As a blogger of over a year now (wow!), and a 29-year-old artist, going on my 6th year living and working in this fine city, I have been linked to and twittered from all sorts of other websites and newsfeeds, Facebook pages and blog posts, connecting me to loads of great work and great ideas. So much so that I have noticed a pattern in the types of design projects, whether for professional development or personal fulfillment, that “hip and trendy” graphic designers now all seem to pursue.
Therefore, I have created a list of projects that I have not yet, during graduate school or life, had the opportunity to design. Through these 10+ concepts, I will, in the process, show the design and art community (via the blogosphere) my take on them. (My fellow comrade Kimm Dunn will be working on the same themed list in accordance with me, as time permits. Think of it like the long distance love/hate relationship between Picasso and Matisse, if you will. So, check out her blog for updates as well.)
To start, I begin this week (2 week limit per assignment) with project #1: Cool Tattoos.
Research => sketching => development => implementation. Begin.
