Today was one of those amazing New York days where everything aligns and you just have to admit that sometimes life is pretty grand. I woke up late, with the start of NY fashion week I am working nights now for Style.com, and made lamb Moroccan stew which filled my apartment with the smell of herbs and spices, slow cooking in the air. I then leisurely walked my dog in the fluffy, now melted, powdery snow-land that is Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
My afternoon began with the Daniel Vosovic presentation on the west side, which was brilliant. Daniel personally walked me through his collection and explained the inspirations and influences for his Fall 2010 line. The designs were well constructed, thoughtful, and overall quite intriguing. He used patterns that evoked an earthy, textured sensation, with fitted pants having the most amazing slit ventilation details. The space as well added to the overall feel of his work with light projections of abstract textures on the walls, surrounded by models on platforms. Extremely well done.
After, I headed south to the East Village for the Bess show at Theatre 80 on St. Marks. The space was a huge contrast to the previous show, but completely fitting for the Bess line. Set in Theatre 80, there was soft 1930's, vaudeville-esque music playing in the background, and a tiny, green, back lit bar serving absinthe themed cocktails pre-show. I sat and took in the surroundings as I waited for the vintage theatre to open their doors. Once inside, the show began, contrasting the East Village grunge rock scene with Renaissance fair fluidity. I was definitely in love with all the shoe choices, from studded combat boots to 5" platform comedy / tragedy mask heels. I left on a liquorish flavored high.
As I walked home to the subway, the sun was setting and I stopped into Chikalicious, my favorite Japanese pastry shop, for a mini cupcake. Sometimes, life is so good it just seems unreal.
