Art-Weekend

This weekend was art filled for me, and also a bit bizarre. Thursday night, I caught the 10pm showing of Valentino, which was really impressive, not only for the subject of Valentino's 45-year-career and talent, but also for the film's pure cinematic entertainment. Loved it.

Then, Friday after work, I went to the Tangled Alphabets exhibit at the MOMA, which although interesting to a degree, seemed to lack work that actually included... the alphabet. Odd? Yes. Therefore, as a typophile, I was a bit disappointed. However, my attending the exhibit, did lead to me finding another great show open right now at the MOMA - Martin Kippenberger: The Problem Perspective. So, all was not lost.

(Some images from Tangled Alphabets that I found interesting.)

And finally, Saturday night I went to see the play A Perfect Crime, off 50th and Broadway at the Snapple Theater Center. And although I was not too impressed with the actual show, the lead actress Catherine Russell (mother of Margaret Russell, from Bravo TV show Top Design) was honored that night and inducted into the Guinness book of World Records for the most performances by a theater actor in the same role.

It was the 22nd Anniversary of the show and their 9,000th performance. This was followed by an after party filled with playwrights, musical songwriters, and theater owners all over 50. A slew of men (and women) offered me their "cards," asked if I was an actress, and one man even quoted Alice in Wonderland about "time being an odd mistress," adding at the end that he was working on his 4th glass of scotch for the night. I'm going to chock that one up to the open bar, but overall, it was an interesting evening.

In summation, my art-weekend did, I suppose, what art sometimes does to people, entertains while confusing them.
