I feel this is an interesting season for graphic design, with the unusual economy, new president, constant change in our industry, as well as (what I feel has been happening for years) the slow decline of print. That being said, there are many upcoming design related events / information that make me just love New York City and get excited about the potential of what is to come in our field.
For example, the New York chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts has a blog I discovered today with some great online design videos. I highly recommend them, if you have some extra time.
Also, Gary Hustwit, who made the film Helvetica, is putting out a new documentary in May called Objectified, focusing on the subject of industrial design. Some of my friends went to the early screening last week and said it was definitely worth checking out. I personally can't wait!
And in terms of fashion, I read today that this summer the biography film on Gabrielle Chanel - Coco avant Chanel - comes to theatres. This will follow the current film out on Valentino, that I will be seeing this weekend (yay!), which, by the way, has gotten rave reviews from my coworkers.
Overall, I'm expecting a great spring / summer for design.
