It's a Small Art World
(Robert Longo "Surrendering the Absolutes," Charcoal drawing on paper, Metro Picture Gallery, NYC)
(Elizabeth King, Bronze Sculpture with glass eyes, Danese Gallery, NYC)
This past week I went to see an group exhibit featuring artist Elizabeth King (a college professor of my friend LT) at the Danese Gallery in Chelsea. En route to the show, we hit up the Metro Picture Gallery, who had an exhibit by Robert Longo, "Surrendering the Absolutes." The large-scale works were phenomenal, as they looked like wall-sized photographs, yet were charcoal drawings on paper. The charcoal was smooth and almost misty, as if he had applied a Photoshop filter to the page.
And ironically, while at show I bumped into a co-worker of mine Nicola Kast (check out her site!), a wonderful photographer at style.com, who told me that Robert Longo was the sponsor for her artist's visa. Sometimes New York is such a small world.
