Jim Carrano and the BWAC
(Jim Carrano, Light installation / photography, Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition show, NYC)
(Jim Carrano, Photography from previous shows)
One of my favorite New Yorkers Jim Carrano (owner of the hip LES lounge The Skinny) was part of an art opening this past weekend with his collective the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition. We took the Ikea water taxi, which I highly recommend if you need to get to the waterfront of Red Hook and don't want to take multiple forms of transportation. The voyage was beyond worth it, as Jim's work was wonderful, and mixed with a wide variety of other living/working artists. Jim's installation was made of two large panels, illuminating his work (literally), with varying spots of light bursts. He explained the piece was produced by walking in front of the camera and aiming a flashlight at the lens. I'm including some of Jim's work I've seen in the past in this post, for reference of his style, which I think is indicative of his overall aesthetic.
