Barbie Becomes Computer Engineer (It's about time!)

I've never been a big Barbie fan. Honestly, I always found her to be a little bit boring and unable to walk without high heels that were perpetually lost, but this announcement seemed relevant and kind of cool.

Apparently, Barbie has had 124 careers since 1959, everything from stewardess to paratrooper, and last Saturday, she got her 125
th career as... a computer engineer!

I love what Nora Lin, President of the Society of Women Engineers had to say -

"
Computer Engineer Barbie®, debuting in Winter 2010, inspires a new generation of girls to explore this important high-tech industry, which continues to grow and need future female leaders. All the girls who imagine their futures through Barbie will learn that engineers — like girls — are free to explore infinite possibilities, limited only by their imagination. As a computer engineer, Barbie will show girls that women can turn their ideas into realities that have a direct and positive impact on people’s everyday lives in this exciting and rewarding career.”

It's about time Barbie embraced 2010. Thanks Mattel! (oh and check out that sexy binary code t-shirt, not too shabby)
