If you live in New York you have most likely seen the outside of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine (if not only from a tour bus), but this morning I attended their Easter Sunday service and I have to say that the one hour local ride uptown, filled with map-in-hand tourists who all exited at 110th Street, was completely worth my time in order to see the building's interior in action. Noted as the "largest Cathedral and Anglican church and fourth largest Christian church in the world" by Wikipedia, and famous for its gorgeous exterior, there is nothing as breathtaking as in the interior space, nearly 600 feet long and 230 feet tall, with illuminating stained glass windows and endless small rooms throughout. It was definitely worth a look, especially with the whispering choir and calming incense in the backdrop. Also, I noted that the clergy's robes were damask (a personal favorite).
